Bun B – Play Cloths (Freestyle)

Bun B spits on the track “Popular Demand (Popeyes)” by Clipse, founders of one of our favorite brands – Play Cloths. Definitely a hype up for King of the Trill’s mixtape “No Mixtape” that is expected to drop soon.

All-Star Sneakend 2010

We all know the Metroplex known as DFW has been privileged to be the city host of the NBA All-Star Weekend this year. With the NBA All-Star events happening all around Dallas, Fort Worth, and Arlington, what better way and time is there to promote another BIG sneaker event?
The Dead Stock and Heat Seekers crew are good friends of ours at SHOGUN. Many of you may be familiar with the Dead Stock crew. They are the same group of guys that have presented KIXPO for the last several years, an annual sneaker and streetwear convention in Dallas, Texas. Alongside with the Heat Seekers crew, they are prepared to present the All-Star Sneakend!
The All-Star Sneakend is going to be operated much like KIXPO with many folks displaying their collections of exclusive, hard-to-get sneakers, otherwise known as HEAT! There will also be plenty of raffle prizes such as a pair of the “Dallas” edition Nike Air Force 1s designed specifically for the 2010 NBA All-Star Game, and many more items that are sure to keep you possessively chanting the numbers on your tickets.
SHOGUN is a proud sponsor of the event. Look for most of the SHOGUN fam to be there as well as a new SHOGUN t-shirt exclusive to the event! Mavs fans won’t be disappointed!
All-STAR SNEAKEND EVENT DETAILS:
Date: Friday, February 12, 2010

Kilowatts And Vanek

About five years ago, Keith Shogun sent me a track by the duo known as Kilowatts and Vanek titled “Lies.” The moment I began to listen to the track, I was struck with awe. Since then, it has been a needle lost in a 60GB haystack of music. The other night, as I was going through all of my music in search of some sort of nostalgic feeling, I came across this track again and decided to give it another listen. The feeling was refreshing and remembering how they collaborated was a spark of inspiration.
Kilowatts, or Jamie Watts is from Philadelphia, and Vanek, or Peter Van Ewijk is from Belgium. They met each over the internet through a music forum years ago. They shared files of their productions and eventually began recording a couple of tracks together… all over the internet! Finally, after many months, they met in person after a fan requested that they both play a couple of shows as a duo in Germany.
How incredibly neat is that?
Last night, I decided to do some extra research on the interweb to find out if they ever pursued their project, and low and behold, they have released two albums! The first one titled “Rawq” and the other “Focus And Flow.” It’s always exciting for me to find new music. Especially now, since I am starting to feel a little jaded with all of the new rock music sounding mediocre at best.

The Cleveland Show

You may have heard or seen the name Chip Tha Ripper. He is a good friend of Kid Cudi and has appeared on a few of Cudi’s tracks on his mixtapes and album and undoubtedly has talent that won’t go unnoticed. Now, he has his own featured mixtape titled “The Cleveland Show” presented by Mick Boogie and Terry Urban.
I’ve had this mixtape for a little over a month now, and is definitely my favorite mixtape of 2009, which says a lot considering Lil Wayne’s cohort Drake, 10Deep’s 2009 feature Donnis, and Oklahoma native Jabee also dropped great mixtapes in 2009 that I’ve enjoyed. The production is unparalleled and has a couple of tracks that use samples from Santogold and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. His lyrical style takes after the title, and now someone else is running the show out in Cleveland other than Lebron James.
Also gotta love the cover art with an illustration of Chip fitting Black/Pink Nike Air Yeezys and Louis Vuitton Millionaire sunglasses in a fashion that mocks the animation of ‘Family Guy’ and the actual ‘The Cleveland Show’.

Diplo x Gucci Mane “Free Gucci”

If you’ve ever stepped foot into our store, then you may have noticed that we are big fans of hip-hop, trip-hop, electro, indie, and everything in between. Our playlist consists of everything from the late Notorious B.I.G, the sample-genius DJ Shadow, the sappy verses of Death Cab For Cutie, the tempo-shifting Bloc Party, to the up-and-coming Oklahoma native Jabee. We appreciate good music.
With that said, John Shogun shared this with me the other night knowing that we were both fans of the DJ / Producer Diplo. Diplo rounded up a few friends to produce and remix a few tracks from Gucci Mane’s “Cold War” series of mixtapes. The download is free and in high quality (320kbps), granted you give them a name and an email address, so why not give it a listen?

Spider-Man 4 — No More!

If you’re like me, then you probably had your calendars marked on May 5, 2011. That is the date Spider-Man 4 was set to be released. No matter how terrible you thought Spider-Man 3 was, there’s no denying that many of you would have still been out there in line for the midnight showing of SM4 on opening night at your local movie theater.
The plug was pulled on SM4 earlier this week on January 11 by Sony Pictures due to what is said to be called “script problems.” Instead, Sony Pictures has decided to reboot the entire Spider-Man franchise with an entirely new director, cast, and setting with a release sometime in Summer 2012.
Read more about it here.
