SHOGUN PRESENTS :: CATCHING UP :: W/ ADd+

Back again with the second installment of Catching Up – This time around we get the chance to catch up with the guys from A.Dd+. Upon initially listening to the group it was evident that they were looking to add another element to the Dallas scene and culture that is flooded with dance and boogie music. With production from Picnic and a sound reminiscent to legendary group Outkast its safe to say that if the group continues at this pace they will be a staple not only in Dallas but on the national scene for years to come.

The Duo will be having a release party for the latest mixtape “When Pigs Fly” this Friday at The Loft in Dallas, all the info is listed below.

When did you know that music was what you wanted to do for a living? What was the turning point?

Paris Pershun: I would have to say after I stopped taking college as serious as i should have. I started pursuing music on a serious level and noticed a change in my writing.
Slim Gravy: I realized I had nothing else really going for myself and I wasn’t going to be able to support my family the way I needed to unless I had a lot of money from doing something I love. The turning point was 08′ when I realized how good we actually were getting.

What drives you every day to make music?

Paris Pershun: I would have to say the love of creativity. I always wanna top the last thing I did and I feed off the reaction of the listener.

Slim Gravy: The act of creating and making something new

Tough question, who is your favorite artist?

Paris Pershun: A tie between Jay-Z and Outkast (yeah)

Slim Gravy: Cee-lo Green

Tougher question, what is your favorite song? Favorite verse/line? And why?

Paris Pershun: My favorite song is “Allure” by Jay-Z.

Paris Pershun: Im a huge fan of LRG clothing

Slim Gravy: LRG just cause they make their pants from trees

What is your favorite sneaker of all time?

Paris Pershun: I think i would have to say the Aqua 8′s

Slim Gravy: All red, white check, NIKE Cortez

Outside of hip hop, what are your other musical influences?

Paris Pershun: Too many to name, but i fuck with every genre of music

Slim Gravy: Maroon 5, Michael Jackson and Lil Bow Wow

Some good friends of the shop are throwing a new event at The Prophet Bar in Dallas. This Friday, February 25th join us for the first “Spotlight” show. The goal of this event is to provide a medium that will give new and local talent the opportunity to step into the Spotlight.

This is not your normal show. We are gathering acts of all variety in hopes of sparking something special in the DFW.

Come out, show love and support for your talented local artists! There will be a wide variety of performances ranging from acoustic, electronic, punk, dance, and hip-hop.

Local acts include: Bernadette, Hedgehog & Frog, Legsweeper, Duette, Peter P, Barkada, Ty City, and DJ Pete Mash.

We will be there along with the homies from Unkommon Kolor slanging tees and giving out freebies during the show.

AND after everything is said and done…it’s just gonna be a straight party until 2am comes around. So come for the show and stay for the parrttyyy.

Rooooozzaaaayyyyyyy……..

One of my favorite artist is Rick Ross. He continues to put out great quality music. He is emerging as one of the next artist to leave his stamp on the hip hop game in a major way. His last 2 albums have been nothing short of classic. He is continuing to stay relevant as he just released a mixtape and is hoping on tracks with the heavyweights in the game. The 2 tracks below are his latest singles. Looks like Rozay is starting the year off strong 2011 should

Yeezzzzzyyyyy……

One of the songs that didn’t make it on to the album leaked out this week. You hear a few of the punchlines he used in a few “freestyles”. I’m curious to see what KanYe has in store with Jay Z as they drop their “Watch the Throne” album here soon. This year should be G.O.O.D for KanYe as well as the rest of the G.O.O.D music team.

As the anticipation continues to grow for the duo’s second mixtape they drop the trailer for the project. 2011 will be a big year for the group. Expect huge moves from the Sore Losers.

This is the first track released from Rick Ross’ mixtape entitled ASHES TO ASHES set to drop Christmas Eve. I personally am a huge Ross fan, and cant wait to see what he puts out. The song below 9 Piece has the same vibe as BMF and MC Hammer which were 2 of Ross’ hits from Teflon Don his last album.

DIAMOND IN THE ROUGH……

This song surprised me on the first listen, I really was not expecting much from it. Turns out I like the song a lot. The song has a gang of artist on the track and including Like from Pac Div who absolutely kills the track. Give it a listen.

Im going to place these next two songs the SHIT RIDES section. 1st up Moon and Stars by KRIT got a makeover for the remix. Spitta and Kyleon jump on and kill it.

This is one of my favorite tracks off of Spittas Pilot Talk 2. Dom is continuing to grow on me and kills the 2nd verse. Tracks been out for a minute now but….SHIT RIDES!

G.O.O.D VISUALS…

The latest addition and one of my favorite new rappers out right now is Cyhi. If you have not already listened to his latest mixtape “Royal Flush” you should do so ASAP! Below he puts visuals with one of my favorite songs off the mixtape entitled “Living Wonderful.” Apparently after signing with G.O.O.D Music he is living wonderful!

If you recall I previously posted this song and now I post the visuals to go along with it. If you have not heard about the artist take the time to get to. He will be around the game for a while. His style and delivery are dope and so are the visuals for the vid!

Become Legendary???

On this single Sean teams up with Melo (As in Carmelo Anthony of the Denver Nuggets) to make this single from Carmleo’s upcoming mixtape titled “Become Legendary.” Really interested in seeing what he has up his sleeve for this one cant go wrong these days with putting Sean on a track. Great start so far to the tape!

WHO TAUGHT YOU HOW TO……

When two greats link up on a track you usually get greatness! Sooo what else would you expect when Ye and Jay get on the track. Track is dope with crazy punchlines from both. So if you thought that was your bittcchhh. Apparently you thought wrong!

As TIP Harris goes back to Jail several songs from his album have been leaking. The latest to come out is the track below with Kanye West and Kid Cudi. In the track Kanye addresses the ILLUMINATI rumors and Cudi graces the hook. Great song too bad T.I. wont be around to reap the benefits of the albums release

With Thanksgiving just a few days away, we want to take a moment to thank everyone who doubted us, who didn’t support us, who didn’t believe in us when SHOGUN was just a few cloudy ideas on a piece of paper. We didn’t know how we would pull it off, but our mission was simple. We wanted to do something special, something unique, something for everybody. And guess what?

It happened.

In the fall of 2009, four dudes with way too many sneakers from the “other” side of town opened a boutique and named it SHOGUN. Like a secret that gets passed on, we slowly built a solid foundation of new friends, loyal customers, and avid supporters. So to everyone who has walked through our doors, visited our website, read our blog, posted on our Facebook, tweeted about us, stuck our sticker on a laptop, doodled the “Skull & Guns” logo on a notebook, or told a homeboy’s homeboy about us — THANK YOU!

Today the 22nd is the release of the most anticipated album of the year from Kanye West entitled “My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy.” The album was leaked a few weeks back and didn’t fail to deliver with guest appearances from Jay Z, Rick Ross, Kid Cudi, John Legend, Fergie and even Elton John getting a spot on the album. Kanye promised on UStream a few weeks back that the leaked album is going to be very different from the album that will be released today. Below is a little preview of the album.

Who is Cyhi Tha Prince?

The latest addition to the G.O.O.D Music label Cyhi has been showing he deserves the recognition that he has been receiving lately. With monster verses on “So Appalled” & “Take one for the team” the music industry is starting to take Cyhi a little more serious. Below is one of my favorite singles off of his latest mixtape “Royal Flush” entitled “Ring Bellz” give it a listen and welcome tha prince.

Theophi-WHO?

Many of you guys may not be too familiar with the artist outta Brooklyn. His style is a blend of Electro, Soul Pop, RnB and he has been making waves lately with this new sound. Stated as saying some of his musical influences are the late great Micheal Jackson and Prince its not to hard to see why Londons style differs from most artist coming out these days. Below is one of his latest singles entitled “Flying Overseas” give it a listen.

ROC NATIOOONNN….

The latest signee to ROC NATION makes a strong statement with the first single released since the signing. With the addition of Electronica don’t be surprised if ROC NATION starts to kill with releases here in the near future with artist such as J Cole and Wale.

Apparently this single was produced over a year ago. But it seems like whatever Khalifa puts out the people flock to. Below is one of his latest singles “Stunt’n.”

Brown of the Sore Losers takes his crack at the Kanye West single and does one hell of job. I don’t think most people really see the movement that is happening in the DFW area but we will save that discussion for a later date. Im excited to see the show that the DUO will be putting on Dec 2nd at Trees. Go SUPPORT the Sore Losers. If you have not seen a live Sore Losers show you should be disowned by your family!…Just sayin!
