Bun B – Play Cloths (Freestyle)

Bun B spits on the track “Popular Demand (Popeyes)” by Clipse, founders of one of our favorite brands – Play Cloths. Definitely a hype up for King of the Trill’s mixtape “No Mixtape” that is expected to drop soon.

The Cleveland Show

You may have heard or seen the name Chip Tha Ripper. He is a good friend of Kid Cudi and has appeared on a few of Cudi’s tracks on his mixtapes and album and undoubtedly has talent that won’t go unnoticed. Now, he has his own featured mixtape titled “The Cleveland Show” presented by Mick Boogie and Terry Urban.
I’ve had this mixtape for a little over a month now, and is definitely my favorite mixtape of 2009, which says a lot considering Lil Wayne’s cohort Drake, 10Deep’s 2009 feature Donnis, and Oklahoma native Jabee also dropped great mixtapes in 2009 that I’ve enjoyed. The production is unparalleled and has a couple of tracks that use samples from Santogold and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. His lyrical style takes after the title, and now someone else is running the show out in Cleveland other than Lebron James.
Also gotta love the cover art with an illustration of Chip fitting Black/Pink Nike Air Yeezys and Louis Vuitton Millionaire sunglasses in a fashion that mocks the animation of ‘Family Guy’ and the actual ‘The Cleveland Show’.

Diplo x Gucci Mane “Free Gucci”

If you’ve ever stepped foot into our store, then you may have noticed that we are big fans of hip-hop, trip-hop, electro, indie, and everything in between. Our playlist consists of everything from the late Notorious B.I.G, the sample-genius DJ Shadow, the sappy verses of Death Cab For Cutie, the tempo-shifting Bloc Party, to the up-and-coming Oklahoma native Jabee. We appreciate good music.
With that said, John Shogun shared this with me the other night knowing that we were both fans of the DJ / Producer Diplo. Diplo rounded up a few friends to produce and remix a few tracks from Gucci Mane’s “Cold War” series of mixtapes. The download is free and in high quality (320kbps), granted you give them a name and an email address, so why not give it a listen?

Mick Boogie x Peter Bjorn & John Mixtape

Peter Bjorn & John – Re-Living Thing is a remix album curated by Mick Boogie. It’s not your usual mixtape with someone rapping over instrumentals. They actually took masters direct from the record label and reworked each track with different artists to create something new and unique. The sounds range from indie to uptempo and southern hip hop. I’d even put the production above some recently released albums, but that’s just me. Check it out below and read more about the project at MTV.

Kid Cudi – Dat Kid From Cleveland

Shogun favorite, Kid Cudi, has released a new mixtape with DJ E-V titled “Dat Kid From Cleveland”. It features recently released tracks and sets the stage nicely for his debut album this summer. Thanks to Kid Cudi, DatNewCudi.com and LeakJones.com for making this available.
